Who Are We?

 

My name is Vishesh Chhabria and I am the founder of Filmygiri. Raised in Kuwait in a middle-class family, I grew up watching a lot of Bollywood movies. By a lot, I mean… a lot. My mom used to take my brother and I to the theatre every Tuesday for the latest movie. LOL, yes, it is because the tickets were half-priced.

 

Bollywood is more than a form of entertainment for me. I was basically raised by The Khans and The Kapoors. Bollywood reminds me of the times when I laughed and joked with my family – the moments when we could escape our realities and be emersed in the characters’. When Hera Pheri premiered, my brother and I were obsessed with Baburao’s character. I remember him acting like Baburao and how hilarious I thought that was. In fact, the first vector design I created was inspired by our love for that character (it’s the one you see below) and I sent it to him.

 

 

He loved it and we spent hours reminiscing our childhood! This was October 2020 – this was also the moment I got the idea of Filmygiri.

 

Filmygiri is a Bollywood inspired merch store that will hopefully let you reminisce over and over as much as my brother and I did.

 

What Does Filmygiri Stand For?

 

I lost my father due to an unexpected illness and so just like any single parent family, we saw our share of hardships. There were times my mom had to work three jobs just to provide for me and my brother. (Shoutout to my mom for being the superhero that she is!)

 

Despite everything, I still know that I was extremely privileged because I had access to food, water, had a comfortable roof over my head and a fire education! But most importantly… I had my family. 

 

I can’t imagine how life would have been if I did not have the resources, love and support that I did. This is why I want to use the Filmygiri platform to give back – especially to kids who were not as fortunate as me. They deserve a happy and loving childhood, like the one I had. Filmygiri will be partnering with 2 local charities to support:

 

• Youth homelessness.
• Social support for newcomers in Canada

 

 

 

 

Proceeds from every purchase will be going to the following charities equally:

2) Together Project - https://togetherproject.ca/

 

If you purchased items when we first started in December 2020 or if you are looking to make your first purchase – everything will be accounted for in donations. Filmygiri will be giving back on your behalf.

 

The Filmygiri team will also be volunteering our time to support these local causes whenever possible.
